Use the category buttons to view items within each category. Use the Select Cost Book Group drop-down list to view items within a particular group within the chosen category. When you choose a different category, the Select Cost Book Group drop-down list will always default to the first group on the list.

Use the Browse
drop-down list to browse through the items belonging to the selected category and the select group. You can also search for an item by typing an item name in the Browse drop-down list. As you type the list will filter out the closest matches. Keep typing until you find the one you want. Hit the Enter key to move to that item.

You can edit the information in any of the fields. If you have checked the Use Cost Book Codes
check box on the Setup / Defaults screen, then there will be a Code column visible. If you have not checked this box the column will not be visible.

You can check the Fav
check box to add items to your Cost Book Favorites list. Uncheck it to remove the item from the list.

Click the editlistbutton button to open the current item in the Cost Book screen.

Click the Adjust
button and select Update Templates to update all Estimate Templates you have created with any changes you have made to the Cost Book. What this means is that if you changed the Unit, Unit Cost or Supplier for an item, Quick Estimator™ 2005 will look for Estimate Templates that use that item and update them with the changes. This will make sure your Estimate Templates are always using the latest Cost Book information.

To adjust the unit cost for all items within the selected category or group, click the Adjust
button and select Adjust Material Item Unit Costs. The word Material will be replaced by whatever category is selected. This will open the Item Cost Adjustment screen shown below.

Enter the percent to adjust by. This can be a positive or negative number allowing to raise or lower the costs. Enter the number you want the costs to be rounded to. For example; if you want all costs rounded to the nearest dollar, enter 1, if you want to round to the nearest 25 cents, enter 0.25

Check the Also Adjust Variation Costs
box if you want all variations of each item updated also. This would normally be the case.

Check the Only Adjust The Current Group
to only update items that belong to the currently selected group. This gives you finer control over updating costs.

Click the Adjust
button to apply the cost adjustment and return to the Cost Book Quick Edit screen.

Click the Cancel
button to return to the Cost Book Quick Edit screen without applying the cost adjustment.
