| Most of the time when you are using Quick Estimator 2005, you will be using the same data file every time. If this is the case, then you should select the Open Most Recent Data File option. Quick Estimator 2005 will check to make sure the data file has not been moved or been damaged since it was last used. If everything is OK. The Main Screen will be displayed and you can start using the program.

| Other Data Files are data files you have created or a data file on another computer on your network. See the Network topic to learn how to open a data file on a network. To open another data file select the Open Other Different File option. A Open File dialog box will open. This is similar to Open File boxes used in other Windows applications.

| It will show data files in the folder where you installed Quick Estimator 2005, as this is the default folder for the program. Once you have located the data file you wish to open, click the Open button. Quick Estimator 2005 will then link to that data file and check it. It will then display the Main Screen. You are now ready to use that data file.

| To create a new data file, select the Create New Data File option. A Save As dialog box will open. This is similar to Save As file boxes used in other Windows applications.

| It will show the data files in the folder where Quick Estimator 2005 is installed as this is the default folder for the program. This is the best place to store your data file because it will be easy to find. If you want to store your data file here (recommended), then just type in a name for the file and click Save. Otherwise navigate to the folder you want to store it in and enter a name and click Save. Quick Estimator 2005 will then create your data file and link to it. You will then need to enter your company information.

| Select the Restore Backup option if you need to restore your data file from a backup you have made. This would only be necessary if something happen to you working data file. This will open the Restore Data File screen. See the Restore Data File topic to learn more about how to restore a data file from a backup.

| Select the Open Sample Data File option to open the sample data file that came with Quick Estimator 2005. You can use this as a learning tool.

| Do not use the sample GroundworX data file as your working data file. If you re-install Quick Estimator 2005 or install an upgrade, the sample data file will be replaced. You should always create a new data file for your own use.
