Clicking Lists onestep Cost Book Groups on the Menu Bar will display a list of Cost Book item groups and Assembly groups (i.e.. Concrete, Landscaping, etc.) which you can use to group items in your Cost Book and Assemblies by. You can also use the CSI Code format to group your cost book items. Using CSI Codes can make it easier to find items when creating estimates and also gives you more control over how items are sorted and displayed. You could also use your own numbering system using just numbers or a combination of letters and numbers. The sample data file that comes with Quick Estimator™ 2005 uses a custom code format. Quick Estimator™ 2005 also includes a sample list of CSI Codes, which you can view, and also copy individual items to your cost book group list.

To add a new group, click the Add New Cost Book Group button.

Double-click a row to open the Cost Book Groups screen where you can view or edit the list.

Enter new items on the last line with the star button next to it. If you cannot see this line use the scroll bar to scroll down until it becomes visible.

If you have checked the Use Cost Book Codes check box on the Setup / Defaults screen, then there will be a Group Code column visible. If you have not checked this box the column will not be visible. You can enter a group code in this column. A group code can be made up of all numbers or a combination of numbers and letters. Codes cannot have spaces or any characters other than valid numbers and letters of the alphabet. If you use letters and numbers, you should try to end the codes with numbers.

If you have also checked the Automatically Add Cost Book Item Codes check box on the Setup / Defaults screen, then Quick Estimator™ 2005 will automatically assign codes to individual cost book items based on the Group Code. You should space out the Group Codes to allow for coding of the individual cost book items that belong to each group. For example; If you have a group with a code of 01000 then each item that you add to that group would be coded 01001, 01002, 01003 and so on.
